Thought dollar store spices were a scam until I cooked a whole chili for $4
Tbh I always figured the $1 spice bottles at Dollar Tree were just colored dust and kept buying the $6 jars at Kroger out of habit. Last week I was short on cash before payday so I grabbed cumin, chili powder, and garlic powder for three bucks total and made a pot of chili with a can of beans and some ground turkey I got on markdown. It tasted exactly the same as when I use the fancy stuff, maybe even a little stronger since the bottles were fresher than the old jars in my cabinet. Ngl I felt dumb for spending years of grocery money on pretty labels. Has anyone else switched to budget spices and noticed zero difference, or did I just get lucky with this batch?
