Took me 6 months to realize I was rinsing my rice wrong
I always thought you just rinse rice once real quick and call it done. Then my buddy who cooks at a pho place in Philly watched me do it and was like 'you need to rinse until the water runs clear, not just cloudy.' I counted and it took me 4 full rinses before it was clear. Now my rice isn't all gummy and I actually save money because I'm not throwing away bad batches. Anybody else have a dumb kitchen habit they just found out about?

Rinse until the water runs clear" changed my life too, no joke.

My buddy Dave used to cook rice like he was making concrete. He'd just throw it in a pot with some water and hope for the best. One time he made a batch so sticky we used it as poster putty to hang up a calendar. I told him about the rinsing thing and now he swears he's a rice master. He even bought one of those fancy Japanese rice cookers, but I still see him eyeballing the water level like it's a science experiment.
