Unpopular opinion: I stopped buying canned beans after a buddy at the gym did the math for me
A guy I lift with in Tucson told me I was wasting money on canned beans at $1.29 a can when a 2 lb bag of dry pinto beans costs $1.79 and makes about 12 cans worth. I did the math and he was right, so I switched to soaking them overnight and cooking a big batch on Sundays. Now I spend about $8 a month on beans instead of $30, and they taste way better too. Anyone got a good trick for keeping them from getting mushy when you cook a huge pot?
Oh man, add a splash of apple cider vinegar to the soak water, it really helps them hold their shape. Also salt the water only at the very end of cooking, that was my mistake for like a year.
