I switched my knife grip after 8 years and it feels weird but better

I used to hold my chef's knife with my index finger on the spine, like a lot of people do. Last month I watched a video from a guy in Portland who said that grip kills your knuckles and wrist over time. He showed the pinch grip where you pinch the blade right above the handle. I tried it for a week straight and my dicing got way faster, plus no more fatigue after 3 hours on the line. But I still catch myself slipping back to the old grip when I'm in a rush. Has anyone else made this switch and actually stuck with it long term?

Huh, I actually disagree pretty hard on this one. I've been using the index finger on the spine grip for over 12 years and my knuckles and wrist are totally fine. The pinch grip always felt awkward to me and I lost a lot of control on bigger veg like squash or turnips. Maybe it works for some people but I'd say stick with what feels natural unless you're actually hurting.

Doesn't long term wear and tear depend more on your knife grip than where you put your index finger though?
