My mandoline blade guard cracked after 3 months, finger almost paid for it

I was slicing 40 pounds of potatoes for a catering gig last Tuesday and the stupid plastic guard snapped mid-push, my thumb went straight into the blade and I lost feeling in it for two days. Took me 4 hours of scrounging hardware stores to find a replacement guard that actually fits, but now I just use a cut-proof glove instead. Anyone else ditched those flimsy guards for gloves on high-volume prep days?
