Rant: Lost $80 on a stupid mandoline slicer I bought off Amazon

So I grabbed this cheap mandoline from Amazon last month, thinkin it would be a quick win for prepping veg. First time I used it, the blade holder snapped clean off, sliced a chunk of my thumb too. Ended up at urgent care in Portland and spent more on the visit than the slicer was worth. Anyone else got burned by a kitchen tool that looked way better online?

Read somewhere that cheap mandolines can have inconsistent blade tension, not just bad plastic. That thumb gouge sounds like the thing warped mid-slice and did its own thing.

Oh come on, you can't be serious blaming the tool for user error. Bet you were slicing at some crazy angle or putting way too much pressure on it. Mandolines are simple machines, they don't just snap for no reason. Maybe the issue was your technique, not the product. Safety guards exist for a reason too, you know. Sounds like you got what you paid for, but a little common sense goes a long way in the kitchen.
