Warning: a line cook called my plating 'sad' and I had to listen

He said my food looked like it was hiding, so I started using a smaller plate and building height, which honestly made a huge difference, but has anyone else gotten a piece of criticism that stung but was totally right?

What about criticism on your food's smell?

Consider the source, @oliverw46. If someone's eating pickled eggs and lutefisk in a break room, the smell criticism might just be a public service announcement. Bad food odors can be a cry for help or a warning to evacuate.

Reminds me of the time my classroom smelled like burnt popcorn for a week. Oliverw46, you'd have had some strong notes for that janitor.
