Can we talk about how we used to clean flues before the new regs?

Back in '08, I'd just drop a brush and pull a rope, but now with the updated NFPA 211 code, I have to video scan every single one and file a report. The change came after a big insurance claim in Denver last fall, and it adds like an hour to each job. Anyone else feeling the pinch on their schedule, or is it just me?

Used to hate the extra steps. Then saw a video scan catch a crack everyone missed. Changed my whole view on it.

Right? I had the same thing happen with a leak check last month. We were about to wrap up and the thermal camera picked up a cold spot in a wall no one even thought to check. Found a slow pipe leak behind the drywall. Totally saved us from a callback.

Totally get that, man. That feeling when you're ready to pack up and something like that pops up is brutal, but it's the kind of save that makes you look like a hero. I bet the homeowner was way happier to have caught that now than finding a moldy mess in a few months. Has that thermal camera ever paid for itself in avoided callbacks alone?
