Just found out creosote can ignite at only 451 degrees, and I've been telling customers 1000 plus
Was reading through an old NFPA guide at the shop last Tuesday and saw the flash point of creosote listed at 451F, which is way lower than what I'd been quoting folks. Now I tell every homeowner that a normal stove pipe can hit that temp easy, so a quarter inch of build up is already risky. Any of you running into customers who think a yearly sweep is overkill because their flue looks fine from the outside?
How often are you actually finding a quarter inch of build up on a flue that the homeowner swore got swept last year? Half the ones I check say they had it done but there's no paperwork and no way to prove it either way. Curious if that matches what you see or if most folks are honest about the schedule.
