Lost a whole brush head inside a flue last Tuesday - what a nightmare

I was working on a job in Oakdale, cleaning out a old chimney from 1920s and the brush head just snapped off the rod about 15 feet down. Took me nearly 2 hours to fish it out with a magnet on a rope, and the homeowner was watching me the whole time. Has anyone else had a brush head come loose like that? I'm thinking about switching to a different brand now.

re: "Magnet trick sounds smart but did it scratch up the flue liner at all?" That's the thing nobody's talking about - the liner material matters so much more than people realize. I tore up the terracotta liner on a job two years back using a magnet, left these ugly black scrape marks that wouldn't come off. Turned out the magnet was way too strong and had some sharp edges on the casing. If you're gonna try the magnet trick, wrap it in a thick cloth or tape first, and test it on a scrap piece of liner before you drop it down. Some of these old liners are basically crumbling already, and a magnet yanking around can make things way worse.
