PSA: The new subdivision going up has zero traditional chimneys
It makes me think back to when every house on my route had a brick stack we'd clean each fall.

Remember when you could tell the season just by looking at the rooftops? My dad used to hire a guy to clean ours every October, and I'd watch from the yard. The smell of soot and cold air meant Halloween was coming, you know? Now it's all these sleek roofs with no character at all (and probably no fireplaces either). It just feels like part of the neighborhood's soul is gone.

Ugh, SO depressing, @nancy_morgan. Seriously! It's not just about looks. Those chimneys meant REAL fires and family times. Now everything's so clean and boring. It feels like we're losing little bits of HISTORY with each new build. And for what? So roofs can be 'sleek'? No thanks.

Totally get that "losing bits of history" feeling. It's not just a roof thing. Those chimneys were a sign of people actually living in there, with real warmth and seasons meaning something. Now it's just another empty box for show. Makes the whole street feel cold, even if the houses are new.
