The angled brush trick for sweeping creosote off a smoke shelf changed my whole routine
I spent years fighting to get the shelf clean with a standard wire brush, always missing spots. Then a old timer in Pittsburgh showed me to cut a 45-degree angle on the bristle head and it reaches every corner now. Has anyone else modified their tools like this or am I just late to the party?

That 45-degree angle trick is genius, I gotta try that. I've been using a paint scraper to get at those corners but it leaves scratches and takes forever.

Took an angle grinder to my chimney cleanout door handle last month because it kept catching on my jacket. Made it oval shaped so it lays flat against the brick. Looks like garbage but works perfect and I haven't snagged my coat since. Sometimes ugly fixes are the best ones.
