TIL I've been setting up my drop cloths wrong for a decade after a soot spill in a Boise living room.

I always laid them flat, but watching a tiny pile of creosote dust roll off the edge and onto a white rug showed me you need to tuck the edges under the fireplace hearth first.

Wait, hold on. A glitter spill at Christmas? That's not even in the same league as soot. That stuff gets everywhere and never really goes away no matter how much you vacuum. You probably still find little specks of it in weird places. That sounds like a nightmare honestly. I would rather deal with a little bit of fireplace mess any day over glitter. You have my sympathy for that one.

A decade of doing it wrong seems a bit much. It's just soot, right? Most of it probably vacuums up without a huge fuss. Tucking the edges is smart, but calling it a total system failure feels like overkill.

Oh man, that reminds me of my epic glitter spill last Christmas.
