A neighbor's note about my lawn changed my whole setup

I used to mow every Saturday with a gas mower and blow clippings into the street. Last month my neighbor, a retired landscaper, left a note saying my clippings were washing into the storm drain and adding phosphorus to the local creek. He suggested leaving the clippings on the grass as mulch and switching to a manual reel mower for the small patch I have. I got a used one for $40 and now I finish in 20 minutes without gas smell. Has anyone else switched to reel mowers and seen their grass actually get greener?
