Did your house go dark or did you just see a really expensive flash of light? I once shorted a 12-volt battery and still jumped back like it was a lightning strike. Solar panels pack a punch even in the shade, but I bet that fuse went out with more drama than a fireworks finale. Hope you had a backup flashlight and maybe a pair of pants nearby.

That 12 volt battery story is exactly the kind of thing that makes you wonder why we don't respect low voltage stuff more. So 50 amps through a dead short in those panels, what gauge wire were you running? I've seen 10 gauge melt like butter on a bad connection with less than that.
