Chat with a local farmer at the market changed my mind on composting
I was at the Saturday farmers market in Eugene and this older guy named Dave told me he just piles his kitchen scraps in a corner of his field and lets it rot naturally. He said all those fancy bins and layers people stress over are just complicating things. Has anyone else tried the lazy approach and actually seen it work for their garden?

Whoa hold on, I gotta push back a little here. Dave's method works for him because he has a big field and can just walk away from it, but most of us in small yards would end up with a stinky mess full of rats. Hot composting with the right mix of greens and browns actually breaks stuff down faster and kills weed seeds, which just piling it up does not do.
