Hit 300 kWh in one month and freaked out
I installed a home energy monitor back in March just out of curiosity. Never really paid attention to my usage before, just paid the bill. Last month I checked and my house used 300 kilowatt-hours in 30 days. That's like double what the average apartment here in Phoenix uses. The kicker was seeing that my old AC unit from 2005 was pulling 60 kWh just by itself. That number made me look up rebates for a heat pump. Now I'm actually swapping it out next week. Has anyone else had a similar wake up call from a smart meter?

Read something similar on a different forum. Guy said his old fridge was costing him more per year than a new one just in electricity. Crazy what running old shit actually does to the bill.

Totally @avery629, that fridge story hits close to home. Used to roll my eyes at people talking about old appliances being "energy vampires", thought it was just marketing hype. But seeing that 60 kWh from just the AC unit in black and white completely flipped my mindset. Numbers don't lie, and when you break down the cost per month on something that ancient, the math gets ugly fast. Funny how watching your own real-time usage makes you actually care about stuff you used to just ignore on a bill. Now I'm paranoid about every outlet and appliance in the house, checking the monitor way more than I should.
