I thought those little electric cars were just a fad for city folks

Then my neighbor in Austin got a used Nissan Leaf and showed me his charging setup, which cut his gas bill to zero. Has anyone else been surprised by how practical an EV can be outside of a major metro area?

Okay but is it really that big of a deal? I get the gas savings, but what about the cost of putting in that charger at home? That can't be cheap. Plus, what happens when you need to drive more than just around town? I heard those batteries lose power faster than they say, especially in the heat. It just feels like swapping one set of problems for another.

Did you know you can just plug into a normal outlet for most daily drives?
