Just read a report that says methane from landfills is now the third biggest human source in the U.S., and I found that in the EPA's latest inventory data from 2022.

It really hit me that even if we fix power plants and cars, we're still ignoring this huge, rotting problem right under our feet... has your town looked into better landfill gas capture systems?

Pushed our local council to upgrade the old flare system to a proper energy plant. It took a few angry meetings and showing them the cost savings, but they finally listened. Now that gas runs a small generator instead of just burning off.

Good on you for pushing that through, @aaronlee. That's a solid win, though I'd call it a waste-to-energy setup more than a full plant. Still, way better than just flaring it off.

Wow, that's awesome @aaronlee, seriously. I went through the same thing with my town's old methane venting from the landfill - it took a year of bitching at meetings before they let us pipe it to a little generator. Nothing beats that feeling when the gas starts making actual power instead of just stinking up the whole neighborhood.
