My brand new smart thermostat made my gas bill jump $40 last month

I replaced my old thermostat with a top rated smart one. First month after, my gas bill shot up 30 percent. I think the leaning algorithm is just wrong for my house. Has anyone else seen higher bills after switching?

yeah but like... has anyone checked if their furnace is actually running more or if the gas company just bumped up rates that month? my bill went up and i was blaming my thermostat too but turns out they raised prices like 15% right when i got the new one

I thought I was the only one my thermostat must think I'm made of money or something (it's not wrong honestly). Mine decided to start preheating my house at 3 AM for a cozy 68 degrees when I was perfectly fine waking up to a chilly 62. I felt so betrayed by this fancy little gadget that was supposed to save me cash. Now I just set it to a basic schedule and turned off all the "smart" learning features.
