My local recycling drive got hijacked by a flock of very determined seagulls

Our town organized a big plastic recycling event last Saturday at the park. We all brought bags of bottles and containers to drop off. Things were fine until a huge group of seagulls showed up looking for food. They started dive-bombing the piles, tearing bags open with their beaks. Plastic scraps flew everywhere, and people were running around trying to shoo them away. I got pecked on the head while guarding my bag of milk jugs. The organizers had to call it off early because it was such a mess. Now we're planning a covered bin system for next time, thanks to our feathery friends.

Seagulls are the worst when they get like that, just absolute menaces. They must have thought all that plastic was full of food scraps or something. Getting pecked on the head while trying to recycle is a special kind of bad luck. The covered bin idea sounds like a really smart fix for next time.

Nah they're just doing what comes natural tbh, our trash is the real problem. Also @felix_wilson86 those bungee cords seem like overkill for some hungry birds.

Bungee cords on the bin lid worked for me after similar seagull chaos, @milac37.
