My town's push for a new recycling plant got stuck for years over costs.
We stopped asking for a full plant and instead asked for a small sorting center that could handle 5 tons a day. The county approved it in six months because the price tag was 80% lower. Has anyone else tried breaking a big green project into a smaller first step that actually got built?

What happens to the sorted stuff after the small center handles it?

I saw a report on our local news last year about the recycling center over in Jefferson County. They said most of the sorted plastic and cardboard gets baled up and sold to bigger processing plants. Those places turn it into raw material for new products. It's kind of surprising how far some of that stuff travels, right? The paper from my bin could end up as a box in another state.
