PSA: I was wrong about how much food waste adds to climate change
I was reading a report from the UN's Environment Programme last week and saw that if food waste were a country, it would be the third biggest source of greenhouse gases after the US and China. I always thought it was just a landfill issue. It made me see my own kitchen scraps in a totally new way. Has anyone found a good system for cutting down their food waste at home?

That "third biggest source" stat is wild, right? I started doing a weekly fridge clean-out before grocery shopping. I literally take everything out and make a plan to use the older stuff first. It stops me from buying doubles and finding rotten veggies in the back.

It's a crazy number to think about. @averym82, your fridge clean-out idea is actually really smart. I should try that because my crisper drawer is a mystery box of sadness half the time. Just tossing out a bag of slimy spinach feels like throwing money straight in the trash. Making a plan for the older stuff first would probably save me a lot of guilt and wasted food.
