PSA: Switched to a programmable thermostat and cut my electric bill by $30 in one month

I live in Phoenix and my AC was running all summer. I kept cranking it down to 70 when I was home. Then I set it to 78 during the day when I'm at work and 72 when I'm home. First month after I programmed it, my bill dropped $30. I didn't think such a small change would do that much. Has anyone else seen that kind of savings just from adjusting temps?

The $30 drop seems about right for that 6 degree swing during peak hours. Just curious though, did you also adjust your fan settings for circulation when you were gone? I found running the fan for 10 minutes every hour made it easier for the AC to catch up when it kicked back on, and I saved a bit more on top of the temp changes.

Nah, fan off when I'm gone saves even more.
