Serious question, a retired lineman in Boise told me to stop flushing my water heater and now my gas bill is lower
I was at a hardware store in Boise back in October and got talking to a retired lineman about his setup at home. He told me he quit flushing his water heater every spring about 8 years ago and just keeps the temp at 120 instead. I figured that was lazy, but he said the flushing was knocking loose sediment that then sat in the tank and made it work harder. I tried it on mine, no flush this past spring, and my gas bill went from around $78 in May to $61 in May. Same house, same people, same showers. I do not fully get the why, but the number is right there on the bill. Has anyone else heard this, or is this guy just lucky?
