The 3pm blackout at the Phoenix library showed me what real heat feels like

I was in the middle of a project when the AC died and the lights cut out. It hit 92 degrees inside in under an hour, and I finally understood what 'grid strain' means for real people. I bought a small solar battery pack the next day. What's a good backup plan for a small apartment when the power goes out?

Grid strain" is a phrase you hear a lot more now, and it's always worse than it sounds.

Read something about keeping a cooler with frozen water bottles, @christopher_wilson. It's cheap and buys you time.
