Used to think composting was just for nerdy gardeners but my neighbor proved me wrong
I live in a tiny apartment in Portland and always thought composting would be gross and attract bugs. But my neighbor Karen showed me her countertop bin that uses these charcoal filters, and after 6 months she still has zero smell. She convinced me to try Lomi, this electric composter she got on sale for $380, and honestly it's cut my trash output by half. Has anyone else found a compact system that works in small spaces without getting all stinky?

Lomi works okay but $380 is a lot for something that basically just dries and grinds your scraps. You still need to actually compost the output after, it's not real compost. A better option for small apartments is the Bokashi system, it's like $50 and fits under your sink. Uses fermentation instead of electricity, zero smell if you keep the lid sealed. Your trash output will drop just as much and it's way cheaper.

Hold up, Bokashi still needs some work too. You gotta bury or mix the fermented scraps into soil after the bin is full, it's not just ready-to-use compost right out of the bucket. And if you forget to drain the liquid every few days it can get pretty stinky real fast.
