I thought that new tool coating was just hype until a job in Cincinnati
My shop got some end mills with a special coating last month. The sales guy said they would last three times longer on tough materials like 4140. I figured it was just marketing talk. We put them on a job running 500 parts for a client in Cincinnati. The old tools would start to go after about 75 parts. These new ones? We ran the whole batch, all 500 pieces, with the same set. The finish was still sharp on the last part. I had to check the run time log to believe it. The coating really did what they said. Has anyone else run into a tool or insert that surprised them like that?

Guess you owe that sales guy a beer now...

Yeah, the beer thing... honestly, skip the bar tab. A genuine thank you note to him and his boss goes way further. It shows you get that his win is your win too. That kind of credit builds way better long term favors than a drink.

Oh man, what if the guy doesn't even drink? Awkward. A note is safer and actually gets seen by people who matter.
