My uncle told me to always run a dry cycle on a new end mill, and I finally saw why

He said it burns off any leftover coating and stops chips from sticking, so I tried it on a 3/8" carbide one from Harvey Tool. Sure enough, the first cut on some 6061 was way cleaner and the chips just fell off. Anyone else do this little trick or is it just an old shop thing?

Ever wonder if it helps break in the flutes a little too?

That dry cycle probably helps with what @robertanderson said about the flutes.

Huh, I wonder if that helps with the smell too.
