Put a Renishaw probe on a 2006 Haas VF-2 last month and it was night and day compared to manual edge finding

Funny you mention that, my buddy put a probe on his 2007 VF-3 last spring and he still talks about it like it's the best thing since sliced bread. Manual edge finding is one of those things you get used to but once you don't have to do it anymore, you really feel the difference. He said his setup time got cut in half for most jobs, but take that with a grain of salt because he runs a lot of small batch work. Makes me wonder if the older machines are still worth throwing money at for upgrades like this, or if it's better to just save for a newer model.

Best thing since sliced bread" huh? I guess that beats waiting for the edge finder to stop wobbling and hoping you're within a thousandth. Half the setup time sounds about right, but knowing my luck I'd spend the other half figuring out why the probe isn't touching where I think it should.
