Back in 2019 my college prof said Python was just for scripts

My intro CS professor told me Python was only good for quick scripts. Said I should focus on Java for real work. I believed him for two years. Then I got an internship at a startup in Austin last summer. They built their entire backend API in Python with Flask. It handled 50,000 requests a day just fine. Made me wonder what else he got wrong. Anyone else have a teacher give advice that aged poorly?

What year did your prof last write code? Python runs huge production systems at places like Instagram and Spotify. Sounds like he was stuck in 2008.
