Bootcamp vs self-taught, which path actually sticks?

I paid $12k for a 3 month bootcamp in Denver last spring, and my buddy learned free on YouTube over the same stretch. He got a junior gig a month before me, but now I'm handling React state and he keeps calling me for callbacks. Is structured learning worth the cash, or are we all just buying a kick in the pants?

Hang on to that receipt, cause I paid $9k for a bootcamp and still Ctrl+F my way through every project. Maybe it's less about the path and more about how much coffee you're willing to drink while debugging at 2am.
