Ditched GIMP for Paint.NET after 6 months of frustration

I used GIMP for a beginner project thinking free meant better. After fighting with layers and saving wrong formats for 6 months, switched to Paint.NET and got a logo done in 2 hours. Anyone else wasted time on the wrong tool?

Buddy of mine spent almost a year trying to make GIMP work for his band's album art. Switched to something simpler and finished it in a weekend. He still gets mad if anyone brings up GIMP around him.

And I read somewhere that GIMP's color management is just not great for print work. Your buddy probably spent half that year fighting with colors that looked fine on screen but came out muddy on paper. I've heard that from a few people who tried using it for anything serious. It's free so you want to like it but it has these weird quirks that just waste your time. Simple tools that just work are worth paying for when you need to get something done fast.
