I finally gave up on trying to learn from a giant book
I was sitting at my kitchen table in Atlanta, staring at a 500 page programming book that made no sense. I spent a whole afternoon trying to get through chapter one and just felt lost. A friend told me to try a free online course with small video lessons instead, and it clicked on day one. Has anyone else found that switching from books to a different format made learning to code way easier?

Remember when I tried learning guitar from sheet music instead of just listening.

120 bpm metronome clicks and a page of notation later, I realized I was learning the notes but missing the feel entirely. It's funny how that translates to other stuff too, like following a recipe exactly instead of tasting as you go or reading about a place instead of actually visiting. We get so caught up in the system that we forget the whole point is to make the thing work in your hands (or ears, in this case).
