My cousin told me to skip learning HTML and jump straight into JavaScript

He said HTML was a waste of time for a beginner like me and I would learn it along the way. Six weeks later I was completely lost trying to build a simple webpage because I could not even structure a basic form. Has anyone else been given bad advice about skipping the fundamentals like this?

Genuinely curious what your cousin thought would happen when you needed to put a button inside a form, or lay out a navigation bar. Did he expect you to just magically know where the div tags went? Skipping HTML to learn JavaScript is like skipping the alphabet to learn how to write poetry. You can memorize all the poetic devices you want, but without the basic letters and words, you can't actually write anything down. What was his reasoning when you asked him why you were struggling six weeks in?

Ha, I'll admit I used to think the same way as your cousin honestly! But after watching a buddy try to skip CSS and jump straight into React, I realized how wrong that approach really is.
