My first git merge broke everything, then I read the error message

Tried merging a branch into main last Tuesday without checking what changed. Got 47 conflicts and panicked. Turns out the error log literally told me which files to fix, one by one. I spent 3 hours undoing my own mess because I skipped reading it. Has anyone else just ignored the red text and made things worse?
