Nearly deleted my whole practice folder because I didn't know what git clean -f does
I was messing around with git last Tuesday and typed git clean -f to get rid of some junk files, and it wiped out 3 weeks of Python practice scripts in one second. No warning, no undo, nothing went to the trash either. I got maybe half of them back from an old zip I emailed myself in March, but the rest are gone for good. Now I read the full docs before running any command with -f in it, and I wanted to ask: does anyone here keep a separate backup folder for practice code, or do you trust git alone?
That line about no warning and no undo really got me, because git clean might be the only command I know with zero safety net on a normal folder. I keep a cheap external drive just for practice code now and copy stuff over every few days, since git only saves what you actually committed and my junk files were never tracked in the first place. Losing weeks of work in one second hurts, but at least you'll never make that mistake twice.
