Switched from YouTube videos to just building a broken calculator and stuff finally stuck
After about 3 months of watching tutorials and feeling like I was learning nothing, I started rebuilding a basic calculator from scratch using only the docs and broke it maybe 12 times before it worked. Having to actually debug my own messy code taught me more in two weeks than 40 hours of videos did. Anyone else find that breaking stuff on purpose is the only way it clicks?
Honestly this gets said a lot but I kinda disagree, because not everyone learns by just getting thrown in the deep end and struggling alone for weeks. Videos gave me the base stuff I needed, and without that I would have just stared at a broken calculator with no clue what was even wrong. So yeah, breaking things helps sometimes, but acting like tutorials are a waste is just wrong.
