That one dude on Discord who refused to use version control

I was helping a guy in a coding server last month who had been building a personal project for like 6 months without any backups. He told me he just kept copying his whole folder into a second folder every few days. I tried to explain git to him for almost an hour and he said it was too complicated and he'd rather just keep doing what he was doing. Two weeks later his laptop crashed and he lost everything except what he had emailed himself. Has anyone else run into beginners who absolutely refuse to learn version control?

Man it's like that mindset of "my way works fine" spreads to everything in life. I see people at the grocery store refusing to use self checkout because they "don't trust it" and they'd rather wait in a long line. Same energy as the dude who won't learn version control, just digging in deeper until something breaks.

People get stuck in routines and then start treating every new thing like some kind of personal threat. It's the same reason some folks still write checks at the register or refuse to use a smartphone map because they "know the way." We all get comfortable, but digging in your heels over small stuff just makes life harder later.
