That time a library meetup in Portland changed how I learn coding

I went to a free coding group at the Portland Public Library last Tuesday and someone showed me how to break problems into smaller steps on paper before touching a keyboard. It felt so basic but it finally clicked for me where I was getting stuck. Has anyone else found a weird method that just made things make sense?

That method you described is gold - I had a similar breakthrough when someone told me to draw out my logic flow on a whiteboard before typing anything. Now I sketch my steps on paper first and it saves me hours of frustration every week.

Honestly, @emmam32, I think there's something even deeper going on here. Having a physical whiteboard forces you to slow down and actually see the gaps in your thinking. It's like your brain can't cheat when the logic is literally right there in front of you.
