Took my trusty hand grinder up to Lake Tahoe last weekend for a quick overnight brew setup. Day 3 in, I loaded some medium roast beans and the thing just seized up mid-crank, felt like trying to turn a doorknob made of concrete. Turns out a tiny pebble had sneaked in with the beans, probably from the bulk bin at the store I hit on the way out. I popped the top off, scraped the burrs clean with a toothpick, and got it spinning again within 15 minutes. Lesson learned, I now pour beans into a strainer before grinding whenever I buy from an open bin. The coffee ended up tasting fine but the panic was real at 6 AM with no backup. Has anyone else had foreign junk wreck a grind session, and do you filter beans before grinding as a rule?
