Can we talk about the move to hand grinders for coffee?

I see more friends using hand grinders lately. What's the real benefit compared to a good electric grinder?

Was just talking to my buddy who got a hand grinder, and he said it's all about the control you get. I mean, he claims his pour-overs taste way more even now, no more bitter bits. Maybe it's just me but that seems like a fair trade for the extra minute of work.
