I was a cheap coffee bean snob until my barista friend roasted me

I always bought those $8 bags of pre-ground Folgers because I thought expensive beans were a scam. Then my friend who works at a local shop in Austin made me try a single origin Ethiopian roast he ground right there. The flavor was so different I literally pulled a face and asked what was wrong with mine. Now I spend $15 on fresh beans every week and I can't go back. Anyone else have a moment where someone's coffee made you feel like you'd been drinking dirt your whole life?

My buddy in Portland did this to me with a bag of beans from Coava. I used to buy the giant can of Maxwell House. He ground some up and made a pour over. I took one sip and actually asked him if he put syrup in it because it tasted that sweet. We stood in his kitchen for an hour while he explained where the beans came from and how light roasts work. I felt stupid for being mad about $15 bags before. Now I'm the guy annoying my friends about their Folgers.

Got guilt tripped into trying a light roast Colombian from a shop in Denver and felt like an idiot for drinking gas station coffee my whole life. Now I text my friends tasting notes and they definitely hate me for it.
