My barista told me to stop swirling the cup, I thought she was crazy

She watched me swirl my pour-over for 20 seconds and said 'you're aerating all the heat out, just stir it twice with a spoon.' I switched to her method last week and my morning cup tastes way less bitter, guess my fancy wrist work was the problem. Anyone else get called out for a habit they thought was pro-level?
