My french press shattered this morning and I had to use a filter cone instead
I was rinsing out my trusty Bodum french press after making coffee and the glass carafe just cracked in my hands. Hot water everywhere, glass shards in the sink... total mess. I've had that thing for like 5 years and never dropped it or anything. So I had to dig out this old plastic filter cone I bought for $3 at a thrift store last year. Made my coffee with some paper filters I found in the back of the cabinet. The brew actually came out pretty clean and bright, way different from the french press's heavy body. I think I might stick with this for a while since it's cheaper to replace filters than a whole new carafe. Has anyone else made the switch from immersion brewing to pour-over and regretted it or loved it?

Didn't Bon Appetit do a blind taste test a few years back where pour-over actually won against french press for most people? I remember reading that it brings out more subtle flavors in the beans.

Well, "glass shards in the sink" sounds like a good reason to switch to plastic for a while. I had a similar thing happen with a Chemex maybe six years ago. It just slid off the counter and turned into a thousand little puzzles I had to pick out of the carpet. I switched to a cheap Melitta plastic cone and honestly I never went back. Pour-over is just easier to clean and you don't have that gritty sludge at the bottom of your cup. Plus if you break the cone you're out three bucks, not thirty.
