My grinder burrs were 6 months old and I swore they were fine, then a guy at the roastery pulled them out
I kept telling myself my pour overs tasted flat because of the beans or my water, and I almost dropped $200 on a new kettle trying to fix it. Last Saturday I brought my hand grinder into a roastery on 5th Street and the owner popped the burrs out in like 30 seconds. There was a ring of old packed grounds and chipped edges I never saw because I only ever brushed the outside. He said most folks replace the whole grinder when a $35 burr set would do it, and he was right. New burrs went in that night and my morning cup tasted like the tasting notes on the bag for the first time in half a year. How often do you all actually pull your burrs to check them, and is there a grind setting you use as a tell that something is off?
