My scale died mid-pour on a single origin Ethiopian and I had to eyeball 22g
My cheap kitchen scale just quit on me last Saturday right in the middle of a morning brew, screen went blank and never came back. I was doing a washed Ethiopian from a roaster down in Portland and I had already dumped the beans in, so I had no way to weigh them. I ended up counting beans for a second, then just guessed and used a heaping scoop, and the cup came out sour and thin like watered down tea. Turns out I was probably sitting around 16 or 17 grams instead of my usual 22, which threw the whole ratio off at a 1:15. I did find out my phone has a scale app that uses the touchscreen, but it maxes out around 10 grams so that was useless too. Anyone got a cheap scale that actually survives steam and a few drops, or do I just need to keep a spare in the drawer?
