That $50 temperature-controlled gooseneck kettle I bought was a total dud
I grabbed one off Amazon thinking it would level up my pour-overs, but the thermometer was off by 8 degrees from my cheap instant-read probe. Water was barely hitting 195 when it said 203, throwing off every light roast I tried for two weeks. Anyone else have a gadget that just lied to them out of the box?

Oh man, that's so frustrating. I had a similar thing happen with a "digital" kitchen scale that claimed to measure down to 0.1 grams but would jump around by 2 grams if you just looked at it wrong. It completely messed up my bread recipes for a week before I tossed it in the trash and went back to my old analog one. You really think you're getting an upgrade and instead it's just a waste of money and ingredients. Hope you got your money back on that kettle, at least.

Did you ever try testing it with a known weight before you tossed it? I had a similar problem with a digital thermometer that was off by like 10 degrees no matter what. What finally worked for me was taking a photo of the readout every time I used it and comparing it to a manual check. After a week I had enough proof to get a refund from the company. Might be worth a shot if you still have the box or receipt lying around. I know it's a pain but at least you'll have proof it's garbage.
