Warning: Don't brew light roasts with a dark roast grind size
I saw a guy at my local shop in Seattle last week dump $60 of Ethiopian beans through a burr grinder set to coarse and the resulting cup tasted like watery hay, has anyone else watched people ruin expensive coffee by ignoring the grind chart on the bag?

Watched a barista at a cafe in Portland once dump a $40 bag of single origin into a blade grinder set for French press. Took one sip of the result, nodded thoughtfully, then poured slow drip filter water through it. Your mileage may vary but I think some folks just enjoy the ritual more than the actual taste.

ok but wait, pouring slow drip filter water through a french press grind isn't really gonna work the way you think. french press needs a coarse grind so the mesh filter can catch the grounds, but if the water is dripping super slow through a coarse bed it's gonna under extract and taste weak and sour. that barista probably just nodded because they were trying to look like they knew what they were doing. i get the vibe that some people really are just going through the motions with the whole fancy coffee ritual, like they memorize all the steps but don't actually understand why each step matters. honestly it makes me sad because a $40 bag of beans deserves better than being turned into mud water from a confused workflow.

Tried grinding a bit finer than usual and extended my steep time to get better flavor out of it.
