Warning: Don't fall for the hype on those fancy coffee bean subscriptions

I dropped $120 on a 3-month subscription from some trendy roaster in Austin and every single bag tasted like burnt rubber no matter how I brewed it. Did I get a bad batch or are these small batch roasts just overrated?

My buddy Tom got the same subscription and said it tasted like licking an ashtray.

Was it at least a specific roast profile that caused the ashtray taste, @grace_hunt84? I'm trying to figure out if it's the beans themselves or just how dark they went with them.
